    Default Recommended Android Apps

i know most of you have the iphone but i thought i'd start a thread for those that may have android devices.

ok so everyone may have heard about android devices and how much attention the nexus one has been getting. it seems like the next big thing in the smartphone world. so in light of that, please post some apps that you are using and some that you may recommend.

here are some that i am using.

-handcent sms - an alternative to the native SMS app on the phone. this let you customize almost anything from conversation styles to the colors of fonts etc. also gives you popup notifications that the native app doesn't

-shazam - don't know what song that is playing on the radio? this app will identify it while its playing!

-google sky map - just a fun app that will map out the constellations, stars, planets, etc. where ever you point in the sky.

-google voice - if you know what visual voicemail is, this is the free alternative. basically, transcribed voicemails into text! (google voice is needed and are only available by invite only at the moment.)

-astro file manager - a basic file manager that lets you manage your files on the sd card

-dolphin browser - an alternate web browser. think firefox!

-movies - need to know movie showtimes on the go? this will give you everything you need.

-wave secure mobile - afraid your phone might get stolen? lost? with this app, you can remotely locate (basically it can tell you approximately where the phone is using GPS) , wipe data, lock, and even backup your phone from their website.

-compass - a basic compass for when i'm out hunting.

-sports tap - the ultimate mobile sports portal. access all the MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, NCAA NASCAR, golf, tennis, soccer scores and stats from anywhere, or follow local teams wherever you are.

-spades - for when i'm bored.

-barcode scanner - scan barcodes on CDs, books, and other products, then look up prices and reviews

    please share!

setCPU to overclock it! You'd have to root your phone first. But, I have to say, it runs a hell of a lot faster. Plus, there's custom roms you can put on there, like Smoked Glass 5.0.1, Ultimate Droid, bL33dz Frankenstein ROM, etc. Which are basically themes for you phone.

    Apps
Personal Assistant (Free) - It pretty much keeps up with all your credit cards and bank accounts so you see how much you have or owe.

Seesmic - A Twitter client...I like this better than Twidroid.

Photoshop - Another great app to edit photos. The recent version is very similar to the one on the iPhone minus the sharpness.

FxCamera - Another cool app for picture taking.

AppManager - I like this file manager better than Astro because it looks simpler to use.

So far out of the ROMs I've used...I like the 1.6 Donut version of Dwang 1.17.1. It is fast and its stable. I might try out new ones since they released some recently. I'll update you guys on that later when I've tried them out.

i would of got that, but i flashed a 2.1 OS leak on my eris, and then a couple of days later they finally rooted OS 1.5. =(
and at the moment, there is no way to go back to 1.5. SUCKS!

I tried the new Mytouch Slide 2.1 ROM the other day. It runs pretty smooth but there are a few features that are not currently working. One of the major things that bothered me was the Genius app they came installed and you can't turn it off. I'm currently running the Blue Magic Mark II ROM which is a pretty fast 1.6 Donut. You can set your CPU to overclock and set the minimum CPU speed.
